Extremely excited to work with such a talented/nice cast. But even more so that Chip will be leading us. Time Force was easily my favorite PR season, a very Chip-influenced season. Now go follow the rest of my cast mates!
M.U.T.O. is an acronym for “Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism.”
In early concept art, the M.U.T.O. looked either more reptilian or more insect-like.
The M.U.T.O. are not derived from or based on an existing official Toho character.
Although the monsters were referred to as “Hokmuto” (Hokkaido M.U.T.O.) and “Femuto” (Female M.U.T.O.) in thet script, these names were not actually used in the movie.
According to co-creator Gareth Edwards, inspirations for M.U.T.O.’s design include the creatures of Alien, Jurassic Park, King Kong and Starship Troopers. Some critics added that the female M.U.T.O. looked similar to the Cloverfield monster.
A monster seen in the Godzilla: Awakening comic was temporarily dubbed “M.U.T.O.” before being renamed “Shinomura” (シノムラ).
